FAQ

Why are security guards important?

Security guards are important for keeping businesses safe during and after working hours. They protect places and help stop criminals from targeting them. Every business uses some type of security, like guards, cameras, fences, or locks. Safeguarding property and assets is very important for all businesses.

Why security is an important service?

There are several reasons:

    1. Protection of People and Property: Security guards help keep employees, customers, and property safe from theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities.
    2. Deterrence of Crime: The presence of security personnel can discourage potential criminals from attempting to commit crimes.
    3. Emergency Response: Guards are trained to respond quickly to emergencies, such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches, ensuring safety until help arrives.
    4. Customer Confidence: A visible security presence can enhance customer confidence, making them feel safer while visiting a business or facility.
    5. Monitoring and Surveillance: Security guards monitor premises and can detect suspicious activities early, preventing potential incidents.
    6. Conflict Resolution: Trained guards can manage disputes and maintain order in various settings, from retail stores to events.
    7. Compliance and Risk Management: Many industries require security measures to comply with regulations and manage risks effectively.

Overall, security guarding helps create a safer environment for everyone.

What do guards do?

As a security guard, your responsibilities will vary based on the type of site you are assigned to and its specific needs. This may include:

  • Patrolling at regular intervals to designated checkpoints across the site.
  • Documenting any suspicious activity and reporting it.
  • Coordinating with police to report any criminal incidents.
  • Welcoming visitors to the site.
  • Inspecting the area for possible criminal activity.
  • Managing potentially hostile or dangerous situations.
  • Restraining individuals to ensure they do not pose a risk to themselves or others.
  • Maintaining a visible presence on site, which acts as a deterrent to potential intruders.
  • Searching individuals, their belongings, and/or vehicles.

Do guards have the same powers as police?

Security guards do not hold the same powers as police officers. Still, they are authorised to make a citizen’s arrest, deny entry to their premises, and, with permission, conduct searches of individuals and their belongings before allowing access. However, security personnel cannot carry weapons unless they possess the necessary permits.

Fire watch duties?

Guards receive specific training in their duties and are fully familiar with the site layout, exits, emergency procedures, and evacuation protocols to ensure the safety of everyone on site at all times.
